Ownership transfers
Ownership changes between partners need to be documented properly and, for a licensed business, reported in the right order.
Partners buy each other out, bring in new investors, or pass an interest to family. In a corporation or an LLC that means transferring shares or membership interests, and the company's governing documents often say how it has to be done.
When the company holds a liquor or lottery license, an ownership change usually has to be reported to, and sometimes approved by, the licensing agency. Skipping that step can put the license at risk.
